Status Check: Reading Less and Less

Maintaing my Google Reader has stopped being a chore and returned to being enjoyable. It’s been a few months since I posted anything on this, but I’ve maintained my trend of reading fewer and fewer feeds and fewer items. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything at all.

Google Reader Trends - Jan 08

This whole process also helped me realize something about myself - I used to love (and still do, but I care about it less now)  being the first person to know about something. I enjoyed sharing some new bit of information and feeling like I was that much more informed. As I said, I still enjoy it, but it matters a lot less to me now. I don’t have to be first.

I have gotten a bit lax in my self-imposed diet rule of checking my feeds and mail less frequently,  but I’m still doing better than I was before this all began. Still, I could do better. Maybe I should start keeping a tally of how many times I check, and share that here.

Do you have trouble limiting how much you read your email and check your feed reader? How do you keep yourself in check?
