Cutting Back On Computers
I’m a computer geek. I own 4 computers right now. And I sold one last week.
Last night I finally began the process of consolidating all my content. I hooked up a couple external hard drives and moved files from the old desktops. I set up my music library on my laptop. Tonight I plan to do one more search through my primary PC to make sure it’s all backed up, and then I’m wiping it and the other two (which haven’t been touched in months) to fresh installs of Windows XP. And then they’re being sold, to friends and Craigslisters (I hope).
Once that’s done I’ll be down to a still excessive two MacBook Pros, but one of those is from work, and if things go well enough I won’t have to worry about that before long.
I know most people don’t have this multiple computer issue, but it’s one that’s plagued me for a long time. The ambitious nerd in the back of my mind is convinced that I could make a server from one of those boxes, a media center from another. I like the technology, but putting things like that together is not my passion. I always thought it might be, but now I know it’s not. And so it’s time to move along, towards those things that have proven themselves to be things I actually do love - travel, photography, and finding a way to live life any way I see fit.
